Skincare: if you want to go out right after after applying rosehip oil, you might like to mix it with another skincare oil such as jojoba or almond, as you might temporarily see an orange glow. Apply a few drops to clean skin and massage onto your face or body. Alternatively, add a drop to your day or night cream.

Make-up remover: massage a few drops onto your face and leave on for +- 1 min, then gently wipe off with a moist towel or cotton pad.

Hair: rub a drop between your hands and apply to the ends of your damp or dry hair. For a nourishing hair treatment, massage a few drops into your hair +- 30 min before washing your hair.

Don’t use internally, on broken skin or in the eyes. In case of a sensitive skin, apply a small patch first. Stop using if an allergic reaction occurs. Store dry, cool and dark, and out of reach from children and pets. Wipe off bottle neck after use to prevent buildup.

With its potent regenerative and healing properties, rosehip oil plays a significant role in natural skincare. It’s loved for being fast-absorbing and lightweight, and widely recognized for its abilities to hydrate, reduce signs of aging, and promote overall skin health and radiance. Continue reading to learn more about this botanical powerhouse!

What is rosehip oil?

Rosehips are the reddish-orange fruits of a rosebush, appearing after the roses have wilted. These rosehips contain seeds, and rosehip oil (or called rosehip seed oil) is the botanical extract that is cold-pressed from the seeds of the dog rose (Rosa canina). It’s a climbing, wild rose species native to western Asia, Europe and northwest Africa. The oil has a light consistency and a beautiful vibrant orange color, and has a pleasant earthy smell.

What are the benefits of rosehip oil?

Rosehip seeds yield a rich blend of essential nutrients. The fatty acids - such as omega-6 linoleic acid - act as an emollient that softens, smoothes and reduces the appearance of fine lines. It also protects the skin from environmental stressors and supports the skin barrier function, improving hydration and elasticity. Keeping your skin moisturized doesn’t only feel good, it helps in slowing skin aging. The vitamin A can help with reducing sun damage, reducing wrinkles and mild acne. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties. Rosehip oil is fast-absorbing and lightweight, so it doesn’t leave your skin feeling too oily.

How to use rosehip oil?

Here’s how to incorporate rosehip into your routine for vibrant skin and hair.

1. Rosehip oil for skincare

If you want to go out after applying rosehip oil,  you might like to mix it with another skincare oil such as jojoba or almond, as you might temporarily see an orange glow. Apply a few drops to clean skin and massage gently onto your face or body. Alternatively, add a drop to your day or night cream.

2. Rosehip oil for haircare

Warm a drop between your hands and apply to the ends of your damp or dry hair. Alternatively, massage a few drops into your hair +- 30 min before washing your hair. As a scalp treatment, gently massage rosehip oil into your scalp to stimulate blood flow and leave it in for 30 minutes or overnight before washing your hair.

3. Rosehip oil as a cleanser

Use rosehip oil as a cleanser for that fresh and clean feeling. Massage a few drops onto your face and leave on for +- 1 min, then wipe off with a moist towel or cotton pad.

4. Rosehip oil as a carrier oil

When combined with essential oils, rosehip oil acts as an excellent carrier oil, enhancing the absorption of the essential oils. Keep the maximum topical use (around 0.5%-1.0%) of essential oils in mind; it’s best to look up the recommended dilution for your favorite essential oil.

5. Other uses of rosehip oil

Rosehip oil will soften cuticles and help with brittle nails. You can also use rosehip oil for your lips and facial hair.

Is rosehip oil suitable for each skin type?

Rosehip oil is a good choice for all skin types, but can especially help when you feel your skin looks a little dull and can use the nourishing and rejuvenating qualities of rosehip oil. Its high linoleic content, low comedogenicity (won’t clog pores) and anti-inflammatory properties can help with mild acne.
